Qualified OT (QOT) and Non-Qualified OT (NQOT) OBBBA Time Codes

OBBBA OT Classification produces two informational system time codes: Qualified OT (QOT) and Non-Qualified OT (NQOT). These time codes are used to classify overtime results and support reporting and exports.

Purpose

This article explains the system time codes used by OBBBA OT Classification, what fields can be edited, what fields are locked, and how conflicts are handled.

Overview

When OBBBA OT Classification is enabled, the system produces two time codes:

• Qualified OT (QOT)

• Non-Qualified OT (NQOT)

These time codes are created as system time codes and are available in every tenant unless a conflict exists with an existing custom time code.

Where these time codes appear

You may see these time codes in the following areas:

• Time code lists.

• Time code selectors in reports.

• Timesheet summaries when values are greater than 0.

• Exports and integrations depending on configuration.

System definitions

Qualified OT (QOT)

• Name (default): Qualified OT

• Code (default): QOT

• Rate Type: None

• Multiplier: 0.5

The multiplier is used only to calculate the estimated premium amount associated with Qualified OT.

• It does not modify hours.

• It does not contribute to gross pay.

Non-Qualified OT (NQOT)

• Name (default): Non-Qualified OT

• Code (default): NQOT

• Rate Type: None

• Multiplier: Not applicable

Editable and locked fields

Editable fields

Admins can edit the following fields:

• Name

• Code

• Export Code

Common reasons for editing these fields include aligning export codes with payroll systems or adjusting display names to match internal terminology.

Locked fields

The following fields are system controlled and cannot be edited:

• Rate Type

• Multiplier

These fields appear as read-only and are displayed in a disabled or greyed-out state in the time code configuration screen.

Original system identity

If you change the Name or Code for QOT or NQOT, WorkEasy preserves the original system identity.

The edit screen displays a warning panel that shows the original name and original code associated with the system time code.

This ensures that reporting, exports, and integrations remain mapped to the correct system identifiers.

Conflict scenarios

If your account already contains a custom time code with Code QOT or NQOT, the system cannot create the corresponding system time code.

In this situation:

• The system blocks provisioning of the conflicting system time code.

• An internal error is recorded for manual resolution.

How to resolve the conflict

• Review your existing time codes to identify the conflicting code.

• Determine whether the existing custom code can be renamed.

• Contact WorkEasy Support to complete provisioning of the system time codes.

Interaction with OBBBA OT Classification

When OBBBA OT Classification is enabled in an overtime configuration, the output codes are locked and automatically bound to the system time codes:

• Qualified OT → QOT

• Non-Qualified OT → NQOT

If the display name of QOT or NQOT is changed, the overtime configuration screen shows the updated names while still referencing the original system identities.
