Configure OBBBA OT Classification in Overtime Configuration

Prev Next

Enable and configure OBBBA OT Classification so the system can classify overtime results into Qualified OT and Non-Qualified OT and compute an estimated premium amount for tracking.

Compliance disclaimer

WorkEasy provides configurable tools to support overtime classification and reporting. You are responsible for configuring this feature to match your policies, labor agreements, and applicable laws. WorkEasy does not provide legal or tax advice. If you have questions about compliance, deductibility, or payroll treatment, consult your legal counsel and payroll provider. Any estimated values produced by this feature are informational only and are not final payroll or tax calculations.

Who can configure this

Admins and users with access to overtime configuration.

Before you begin

  • Confirm your overtime rules are configured and working. OBBBA OT Classification classifies the overtime outputs your existing overtime rules produce. It does not replace your overtime rules.

  • Confirm whether your tenant allows selecting an Overtime Period. Some tenants can choose an Overtime Period in this section. If your tenant does not show the Overtime Period field, the system uses a default period set by the backend.

The Overtime Period configuration is located in Global Settings > Platform Settings > Time and Attendance Platform Configuration.

Open the overtime configuration

  1. Navigate to Global Settings > Time Tracking > Overtime.

  2. Open the existing default overtime configuration and select Edit (pencil icon).

  3. In the Type list, select the checkbox labeled OBBBA OT Classification.

  4. A new section titled OBBBA OT Classification appears as the last section on the page.

Configure the overtime period

If the Overtime Period field is visible, select the period used for the qualification threshold.

  • Weekly

  • 2 Weeks

  • Custom Days

The default selection is Weekly.

How the threshold applies

  • Weekly: threshold applies across the week.

  • 2 Weeks: threshold applies across both weeks.

  • Custom Days: threshold applies across the total hours within the selected number of days.

If you do not see the Overtime Period field, the platform configuration for selectable overtime periods is not enabled and the system uses the backend default.

Choose the considered time codes

The field Consider the following time codes determines which hours count toward the qualification threshold. Only paid time codes appear in this list.

Default selection

  • Worked Hours

  • Overtime

  • Double Time

Configure the selection

Open the multi-select control and add or remove time codes as needed. You may remove Worked Hours, Overtime, or Double Time if your policy requires different threshold logic.

Important: This selection affects how the system determines if the threshold has been exceeded. It does not create overtime.

Set the qualified overtime threshold

The threshold field is located in the Qualified Overtime subsection.

Field format

HH:MM

Default values

  • Weekly period default: 40:00

  • Two-week period default: 80:00

  • Custom Days default: determined by system settings for the tenant.

The label of this field updates automatically based on the selected overtime period.

Review output codes

Output codes are system controlled.

The system produces the following outputs:

  • Qualified OT

  • Non-Qualified OT

These outputs are bound to system time codes:

  • Qualified OT (QOT)

  • Non-Qualified OT (NQOT)

The output codes cannot be changed.

If your tenant renames these time codes, the configuration screen displays the updated names while remaining bound to the system identities.

Save the configuration

  1. Select Save.

  2. Saving with default values succeeds.

  3. If backend validation errors occur, the system displays them using the standard error placement on the page.

Behavior after saving

When classification runs

The system performs classification after your existing overtime rules generate overtime and double time outputs.

The classification process allocates those outputs into QOT and NQOT based on whether the threshold has been exceeded within the selected period.

Unchecking the option

Once your default configuration is saved, if you uncheck OBBBA OT Classification, the section becomes hidden, but your previously entered values remain stored. If you enable the option again later, the prior configuration values are restored.

Examples

Weekly configuration

  • Period: Weekly

  • Threshold: 40:00

  • Considered time codes: Worked Hours

This configuration begins qualification once an employee exceeds 40 hours in the week.

Two-week configuration

  • Period: 2 Weeks

  • Threshold: 80:00

This configuration begins qualification once the employee exceeds 80 hours across the two-week period.

Troubleshooting

Qualified OT and Non-Qualified OT do not appear

  • Confirm the employee is assigned to the overtime configuration you updated.

  • Confirm the timesheet produced overtime outputs using your existing overtime rules.

  • Confirm the classification outputs are greater than 0. Some screens display QOT and NQOT only when values are greater than 0.

The Overtime Period field is not visible

Your tenant does not allow selecting the period in the UI. The system uses a backend default period.

I cannot change the output codes

This is expected behavior. Output codes are locked to system time codes to maintain consistency in reporting and exports.
