Global Settings has been updated across multiple areas of the platform to make setup, rule assignment, and configuration management easier to understand and maintain. You may notice clearer audience labels, a more guided rule setup flow, improved right-side selection panels, and a more consistent layout across supported settings pages.
Because these updates affect several modules, the overall experience may look different from previous versions. While the examples in this article focus on Breaks, the same design patterns and workflow changes also apply across other Global Settings areas such as Overtime, Reporting Hours, Holidays, Rounding, Shift Differentials, Punch Restrictions, and additional rule-based settings.
This article uses the Breaks configuration workflow as the primary example to help explain how the updated Global Settings experience works.
Example: Time Tracking > Breaks
BEFORE

AFTER
The Breaks rule setup now follows a centralized, step-based workflow. Instead of creating rules directly from the Company, Group, or Employee sections, you now start from a unified Breaks rule list where all rules are visible and filterable by audience. From this view, you select Create Rule, define the rule name and audience, and then configure the rule details in a dedicated setup panel. Each break type opens in its own configuration panel on the right, allowing you to define durations, requirements, and penalties in a more structured and guided flow.

What changed
The Breaks configuration update introduces four main changes:
Rules are now managed from a centralized list view using the audience filters All, Everyone, Groups, and Employees.
Rule creation starts from the Create Rule action.

Audience selection is now part of the rule setup form, using options such as Everyone, Specific Group, and Specific Employee.
Additional configuration details can open in a separate panel on the right, creating a more guided step-by-step setup experience.

Updated Audience and Rule management experience
In the previous layout, audience types such as Company, Group, and Employee appeared as expandable sections. In the updated layout, rules are easier to review from a searchable list with audience tabs, date visibility options, and actions such as View Assignments and Create Rule.
This makes it easier to review existing rules before creating or editing a new one.
Simplified rule creation workflow
Rule creation has been restructured into a clearer sequence.
Start from the rule list.
Click Create Rule.
Enter the rule name and applicable date settings.
Select the audience, such as Everyone, Specific Group, or Specific Employee.
Choose one or more break rule types.
Complete any additional settings that open in the right-side panel.
Rule “Name” vs “Break Name”
When creating a break rule, you will see two naming fields: Name and Break Name. These fields serve different purposes.

Rule Name
The Name field defines the overall rule. This is the label used in the rules list and helps you identify, search, and manage the rule.
Use the rule name to describe the full configuration, including who the rule applies to and the type of break, such as:
30 min meal floating break
Standard provider breaks
Hourly team rest breaks
Break Name
The Break Name field defines the individual break within the rule. This name appears in the break table and represents the specific break being tracked or enforced.
A single rule can include one or more breaks, depending on how it is configured:
Meal break
Rest break
Second meal break
How they work together
The rule name describes the overall setup, while the break name identifies the specific break within that setup.
For example:
Rule name: Meal floating break (30 min)
Break name: Meal break
This structure keeps rules easy to manage while allowing flexibility to configure one or multiple breaks within the same rule.
Improved right-side panels
In the updated workflow, some selections and detailed settings open in a separate panel on the right instead of appearing all in one form. This keeps the main setup area focused while still giving access to rule details when needed.
One common example is selecting a Specific Employee from a dedicated right-side panel.
Refreshed layout and navigation patterns
Many settings screens now use a cleaner and more consistent layout. You may notice changes such as:
Collapsible sections
Clearer headings
Simplified advanced options
Consistent save and cancel placement
Improved spacing and readability
Where you may notice these updates
You may notice these changes in commonly used setup workflows such as:
Holidays
Reporting Hours
Overtime

Shift differentials
Rounding
Kiosk settings
Punch restrictions
Time clock settings and privileges
Shift swap and drop management
Across these areas, you may notice updated assignment labels, changes to rule setup, right-side selection panels, and a more consistent page layout.

What remains the same
Existing saved rules and configurations continue to work as expected. This update primarily changes labels, layout, and workflow presentation. The core functionality of your existing rules remains the same.
The most specific rule still takes priority:
Specific employee overrides Specific group.
Specific group overrides Everyone.
Help Center articles update
Because this update affects multiple modules, several Help Center articles are currently being refreshed. During the transition period, some older articles may still display previous terminology such as Company, Group, Employee, or Kiosk. If you see those labels in an older article, use the updated terminology in this article as your reference.
Why this update was made
These changes were introduced to improve usability, reduce confusion, make rule assignments clearer, and create a more consistent experience across Global Settings.
