Time tracking rounding rules standardize how employee punches are recorded by adjusting clock-in and clock-out times based on defined rules. This helps ensure consistent payroll calculations, reduces manual corrections, and supports company time policies.
Create a rounding rule
Navigate to Global Settings > Time Tracking > Rounding.
Click Create Rule.
In the Name field, enter a rule name.

Warehouse 15-Minute Rounding
Office Staff Schedule Rounding
Manufacturing Shift Grace Period
Field Employees 6-Minute Rounding

In Starting on, keep Immediate or select a future effective date.
Under Audience, select one of the following options:
Everyone
Specific group
Specific employee
Use the Schedule shift section to round punches based on the employee’s scheduled shift start and end times or standard schedule.
Under Clock In and Clock Out, select the options that apply and enter the number of minutes for each selected option
Clocking In early (minutes)
Clocking In late (minutes)
Clocking Out early (minutes)
Clocking Out late (minutes)
In Rounding occurs, select one of the following:
Manual: Rounding is applied manually
Automatic: Rounding is applied automatically during punch processing

Configure increment rounding
Important: Rounding rules must be configured and applied in accordance with applicable labor laws and company policies. Improper configuration may result in overpayment or underpayment of employee time. Ensure that rounding behavior is neutral over time and does not consistently favor the employer or employee. If both Schedule shift and Increments are configured, schedule-based rounding takes priority. Always validate the rule using real or sample punch data before assigning it to employees.
Use the Increments section to round punches to defined time intervals.
In Round to the nearest, select the rounding interval. Available options may include:
5 minutes (Twelfth Hour)
6 minutes (Tenth Hour)
12 minutes (Fifth Hour)
15 minutes (Quarter Hour)
20 minutes (Third Hour)
30 minutes (Half Hour)
In Round at (minutes), select when the punch should round up or down.
In Rounding occurs, select one of the following:
Manual: Rounding is applied only when manually triggered.
Automatic: Rounding is applied automatically based on the configured increment rules. When selected, you can also choose whether automatic rounding applies to:
Round manual time entries – Applies the configured increment rounding rules to manually entered punch times.
Round manual hour entries – Applies the configured increment rounding rules to manually entered duration (hour) values.

In Behavior, select which punches the increment rounding applies to. Behavior options may include:
All: Applies to all applicable punches
First only: Applies only to the first punch
Last only: Applies only to the last punch
First Up & Last Down: Rounds the first punch up and the last punch down
First Down & Last Up: Rounds the first punch down and the last punch up
Last Rounds Up: Rounds only the last punch up
Last Rounds Down: Rounds only the last punch down
Review the rule settings.
Click Save.
To use Schedule shift rounding, employees must have scheduled shifts in Scheduling. If both Schedule shift and Increments are configured, Schedule shift rounding takes priority.

Standard office rounding
Rule name: Office 15-Minute Rounding
Round to the nearest: 15 minutes
Behavior: All
Result: Punches round to 00, 15, 30, or 45
Grace period for shift start
Rule name: 10-Minute Clock-In Grace
Clocking In early (minutes): 10
Clocking In late (minutes): 10
Result: Punches within the configured window round to the scheduled shift start time
Compliance-friendly rounding
Rule name: First In Last Out Protection
Round to the nearest: 6 minutes
Behavior: First Up & Last Down
Result: The first punch rounds up and the last punch rounds down
Warehouse shift enforcement
Rule name: Warehouse Shift Lock
Schedule shift: Enabled
Increments: Not configured
Result: Punches round based on scheduled shift times
Rounding scenarios
Clocking in early
An employee is scheduled to work from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and the Clocking In early (Minutes) Schedule shift rule is enabled for 10 minutes. If the employee clocks in at 7:51 am, the punch will round to 8:00 am. If the employee clocks in at 7:45 am, the punch will remain at 7:45 am. The same logic can be applied to the other three options.Rounding off in 15-minute increments
