The page organizes notifications into categories, shows a list of notifications for the selected category, and displays full details in a panel on the right. - Notifications are grouped into category cards at the top of the page. - Selecting a category filters the notification list. - Selecting a notification opens its details in a panel on the right. - A **Mark all as read** button allows users to clear all unread notifications in the selected category at once. - Background processes can now be tracked from the same page. - Notification preferences are now part of the notification page. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/88d7ebef-752e-45d9-95e1-ee13bd7279c5/Images/Documentation/image-S5UP1CLV.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T15%3A42%3A00Z&se=2026-11-01T16%3A42%3A00Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=8ySsrtOnGZfcAOaA8CQmSTmkPPZidwHsM78eyQOYaT8%3D) Notifications are generated by different areas of the system, such as approvals, scheduling activity, open shifts, background processes, and configuration-based notifications. Some notifications may also be delivered by email, depending on how the feature is configured. ### Category cards When clicking the notification bell icon, the **Notifications** page is displayed. Selecting a category card displays the notifications for that category. Each card includes a label, icon, and count. Card colors help distinguish notification types visually. Category names vary based on system activity and configuration. ### Notification list The notification list displays the notifications that belong to the selected category. Each item may show the notification title, date, time, or other relevant summary information. Unread items are visually distinguished from notifications that have already been opened. Use **Mark all as read** to mark all unread notifications in the selected category as read at once. If additional notifications are available, scroll through the list to view more items. ### Details panel Selecting a notification in the list opens its details in the panel on the right. The panel displays the full notification content and any available action for that item. Opening a notification marks it as read and updates the unread count. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/88d7ebef-752e-45d9-95e1-ee13bd7279c5/Images/Documentation/image-I39ZAG3X.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T15%3A42%3A00Z&se=2026-11-01T16%3A42%3A00Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=8ySsrtOnGZfcAOaA8CQmSTmkPPZidwHsM78eyQOYaT8%3D) ### Review notifications by category 1. The exact category names may vary based on the feature and configuration. ### Background tasks Background task notifications display system processes such as exports or other system-run activities. These notifications may show a processing status, such as **In progress**, **Completed**, or **Error**. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/88d7ebef-752e-45d9-95e1-ee13bd7279c5/Images/Documentation/image-WZ6F2Q82.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T15%3A42%3A00Z&se=2026-11-01T16%3A42%3A00Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=8ySsrtOnGZfcAOaA8CQmSTmkPPZidwHsM78eyQOYaT8%3D) ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/88d7ebef-752e-45d9-95e1-ee13bd7279c5/Images/Documentation/image-M97EOII9.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T15%3A42%3A00Z&se=2026-11-01T16%3A42%3A00Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=8ySsrtOnGZfcAOaA8CQmSTmkPPZidwHsM78eyQOYaT8%3D) ## Where notifications come from Notifications can be generated by multiple areas of the system, including: - Time off requests and approvals - Scheduling activity and open shifts - Employee-related workflow or evaluation items - Background processes - Configuration-based notifications, such as custom field expiration rules ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/88d7ebef-752e-45d9-95e1-ee13bd7279c5/Images/Documentation/icons8-example-64.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T15%3A42%3A00Z&se=2026-11-01T16%3A42%3A00Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=8ySsrtOnGZfcAOaA8CQmSTmkPPZidwHsM78eyQOYaT8%3D) Custom field expiration notifications can be configured in **Global Settings > Platform Settings > Custom Field Configuration**. Depending on configuration, those notifications can be delivered through both email and in-app notifications. For more information, see [Configure Custom Fields and Expiration Notifications](https://help.workeasysoftware.com/docs/configure-custom-fields-and-expiration-notifications). ## Real-time behavior The Notifications page updates dynamically as notifications are received or updated. Counts, statuses, and read states may update without requiring a page refresh. ## Notes and considerations - Notification visibility depends on role and privileges. - Available actions vary by notification type. - Category names may vary depending on enabled features and system activity. - Some notifications may also be delivered by email. - Mark all as read applies only to the currently selected notification category. ## Notification Preferences ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/88d7ebef-752e-45d9-95e1-ee13bd7279c5/Images/Documentation/2026-03-23_12-17-02.gif?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T15%3A42%3A00Z&se=2026-11-01T16%3A42%3A00Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=8ySsrtOnGZfcAOaA8CQmSTmkPPZidwHsM78eyQOYaT8%3D) Related article: [Add, Edit, or Remove Notification Preferences](/main/docs/new-notification-preferences)
