# How to Change a System User Email Address

A system user's email address cannot be edited. Instead, it must be **archived**, and a new user must be added.

Before archiving a system user's email address, ensure it is not linked to an employee portal user. If so, follow steps 1–2 on [Employee Portal Users](/docs/employee-portal-users) to unlink an employee.
